Prospective students who have earned a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited college or university should address general inquiries to the Office of Admissions. The master’s programs offer rolling admission (Fall, Spring, Summer) and early application is encouraged. The M.F.A. and Ph.D. programs offer Fall admission only and have firm application deadlines of March 15 and February 15 respectively. Transcripts from all colleges attended are required. A GRE or MAT test score, within the last 5 years, is also required. An admissions file will be activated upon receipt of a $40 application fee and the completed application form. Tuition for the 2005-2006 academic year is $800 per credit hour. Tuition is the same for all programs whether on campus or online, for in state and out of state students. The master’s programs are 36-39 credit hours each. The M.F.A. programs require up to 61 credit hours. The Ph.D. program requires up to 52 credit hours. Fees, books and supplies are additional.

The majority of our students receive financial from the School of Communication & the Arts, Regent University, federal loans, and/or private donors and lenders. The School of Communication & the Arts offers need-based and merit scholarships based on demonstrated need and incoming GPA. Students must re-apply each year. A completed FAFSA form is required of all financial aid applicants.

Regent Village, located ¾ of a mile from campus, is an important part of the Regent University community. Students must be accepted for admission before applying for housing at Regent Village. Privately owned homes and apartments are also available in the Hampton Roads area. Estimated living expenses for an academic year vary depending on the student’s lifestyle and number of dependants.

The School of Communication & the Arts offers a Master of Arts degree in Communication; a Master of Arts degree in Journalism; a Master of Fine Arts program with three concentration areas; and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Communication. There are several concentrations in the MA program: Cinema-Television with Producing, Editing, Directing, Critical Studies, or Script & Screenwriting; Media, Faith & Culture; and Educational Theatre & Theatre in Ministry. The MA in Journalism program is a converged media model with Broadcast/Print/Internet Journalism. The M.F.A. program offers: Acting; Acting/Directing; and Script & Screenwriting. (A Production concentration is proposed for Fall 2006.) The Ph.D. in Communication program can be completed on campus or online with residency requirements.

Regent University and the School of Communication & the Arts enjoy a diverse student body. Students have represented all 50 states and more than 50 countries. The School has 57 percent women students enrolled with 70 percent majority and 30 percent minority students enrolled. Six percent of the 300 Communication students are international students.

The award-winning physical environment of the Regent University’s Virginia Beach campus is exemplary. The 135,000-square-foot Communication & Performing Arts Center is one of the most technologically advanced communication buildings on the East Coast. The all-digital facility includes a 650-seat main theatre, a 200-seat experimental theatre, $6 million worth of advanced equipment including screening rooms, a journalism lab, film studios, editing suites and much more.

Prospective students can meet our faculty during Preview Weekends or throughout the year with campus visits arranged by the Office of Admissions.
